What does SEO actually get you?
SEO earns you position in a ranked list. The buyer searches, scans ten blue links, and chooses. Your reward for ranking well is a click, and everything after the click happens on your website. Decades of practice have made SEO measurable and well understood, and it still drives most commercial web traffic.
What does AEO get you instead?
AEO earns you a place inside the answer. When a buyer asks "best physiotherapy clinic in Dubai Marina", the engine replies with two or three names and a sentence about each. There is no list of ten and often no click at all. You are either named in that answer or you are not, and there is rarely room for a long list of runners-up.
That changes what you optimize. Answer engines reward clearly structured facts, consistent information about your business across the web, and content that directly answers real questions.
Which one does your business need?
Look at where your customers ask. If your buyers are younger, digital-first, or in categories where recommendations matter (clinics, restaurants, agencies, home services), a growing share of them already ask AI directly, in English and in Arabic. You need AEO working alongside your SEO, not instead of it.
If you rank well today, you have a head start: many SEO signals feed answer engines too. The gap is usually structured data, answer-shaped content, and (for the platforms that support it) an llms.txt file.
How do you know if you have an AEO problem?
The way to find out is to ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity the questions your customers ask, and see who gets named. If competitors show up where you should be, you have an AEO gap, even if your Google rankings look healthy. An AI Visibility Audit measures this across platforms and both languages and gives you a score to track.
